A sport documentary, january 2076

"Good evening. Tonight we will present you a documentary about the sport that didn't stop "gaining" poppularity since 2052: Extreme Sumo Wrestling.

Before 2015, sumo wrestling's poppularity was in decline in Japan. In 2015, America decided to bring back this legendary sport in the US, with is special touch. They decided to americanise the sport by making bigger wrestler.

In 2020, the American Exteme Sumo Wrestling Assocciation (AESWA) was created. The goal of this association was to regulate the sport, and to make it poppular as possible. They wanted to change the image of the sumo wrestler. They wanted to make it big and awesome, and wanted to change the soft belly to a solid one. They wanted colossal men fighting each other, no lightweight. The ideal image was a very muscular man with a giant ball belly.

The first initiative of the AESWA was to pay the sumo wrestlers according to their weight. For each pounds they weight, they gain 100 dollars each time they fight (in addition to the normal salary that was pretty low). That motivation was enough for a lot of wrestler to begin an intense gaining program. In 2019, the average weight of wrestlers was 740 lbs. But after the new rule in 2021, the arevage jumped to an impressive 910 lbs. At this date, the biggest sumo wrestler was Akimoto Akira. He was also the first one to reach the 1000 pounds mark, at 1058 lbs.

It was in 2025 that the sport association decided to legalize the use of drugs to enhance the body of the wrestlers, at their own risk. The goal was to let them use drugs that makes their muscles stronger to be able to help them carry their ever-growing weight.
-The first poppular drug was a muscle expander. In only a single visit to a specialist, 155 neddles injected the fluid in every important muscle, making them over develop and inflate many time the normal volume. With that injection, they were able to walk without problem.
-The second most poppular drug was the enhaced human growth hormone (EHGH), that makes their organs grow as well. A bigger heart completely eliminate the cardiac disease common in the sport. EHGH also enlarge the stomach to a much bigger size, making them able to consume a lot more food.

It wasn't very long before somebody misuse the treatment. Many people remember the terrible accident of 2028, where Tamagaki Setsuo literally exploded during the match. He wanted to get bigger than is rival for the annual showdown, so he took 5 injections of EHGH in only 3 days. His stomach itself was completely filling his belly. Just before the show, he ate the equivalent of 300lbs of pancakes (his favorite meal). While the EHGH was still expanding his organs, the pancakes was expanding in his belly, making him too full at the beginning of the competition. A simple push made him drop to the floor on his back, his stomach still inflating, until his skin gave up.

3 years later, a gene modification had been implanted in each wrestler, making their organ and skin more flexible, but also near impossible to tear. With this, the average circonference of sumo bellies has risen up quickly. The bigger the sumo was getting, the more fans and money he gained. The AESWA saw that, so they took everything to the next level.

The rules didn't specifiy that the wrestler couldn't do anything to himself during the competition. So one day, the great Akimoto Akira took a helium tank just before stepping in the ring. He put it in his mouth, and turn the valve! His belly inflate for several minutes, with the cherring of the crowd. When he stopped and finnaly stepped in the ring, his opponnent wasn't even able to enter it: the belly of Akimoto was taking the entire 4,55 meters diameter! The AEWSA decided to enlarge the ring each time the average sumo wrestler got bigger.

An intensive inflation program was developped by the AESWA. They wanted to make the wrestlers as big as ever.

Force feeding was used by every wrestler since then. They were kept in a large room, and ate all day long, for weeks, until their satisfied with their weight gain. Of course, they still had to train their muscle and cardio to stay... alive! The most focus ones also had an important surgery in their throat, to completely separte the air from the food. The nose and mouth got their own tunnel in the throat: the nose was directly linked to the lungs, and the mouth directly to the stomach. That way, with a intensive trainning, they can be fed constantly while still being able to breath throught the nose. With no larynx, those sumo can't talk anymore, only do low grunts. With a tube as large as their mouth, tons of food are push in their bellies, stretching them like never before.

Electroshock treatment was also used to enlarge their muscles. With the progress of the technology, it was now safe to use: a computer with a 3D thermal camera knows exactly when to stop, and when the body can take more. Most of the time, the pain of the treatment was to hard to endure, so they put the sumos in a artificial coma, while their body expand.

At this point, most of the sumo wrestler were shaped like perfect sphere of muscle and fat. They needed to get taller. Again, science came to the rescue. They created a pill that stimulate the growth of the entire sketleton. A 6' men can get to 8' in two months. They are kept in the force feeding chamber, but this time, fed with product high in calcium. The pill also made the bone a lot thicker and stronger.

Not many people know this, but before 2015, sumo wrestlers used to live like ordinary people. You should know that the record of the heaviest sumo wrestler at this time was only 815 lbs! As you know, they now live in special village, with houses made to their size.

And now we can take a look at the final step of evolution of the sumo wrestling sport. Here's a video of the final round of this year's competition."

"In the next episode, we take a look back at the evolution of extreme bodybuilding. Good night!"
